Happy Easter 2009

We went to the arboretum yesterday when the weather was really nice and the girls danced to the band that was playing. I'm so glad we got outside because today (Easter Sunday) was pretty cold and rainy. The easter bunny hid eggs at our house overnight and the girls found them first thing when they woke up. Everyone behaved at a very pretty, but long, mass service, and we came home and dyed easter eggs. Yes - you usually do this before the egg hunt, but we ran out of time, so we did it today just for the fun of it.

SJ always makes us laugh with things she says, and today with real concern on her face, she had this conversation,

SJ: "Daddy, is it ready to color easter eggs yet?"

V: "I'm boiling them now, then we'll dye them."

SJ: "Daddy, I want you to be nice to the eggs, I don't want you to "die" them."

We of course laughed and V explained how "dye-ing" is different than "dying" and means to color them. I thought she had gotten it, but later she told me, "Mommy, we're cooking the eggs until they die, then we are going to color them." ...oh well.

Baby Brother is 2 Weeks Old

Baby brother is two weeks old already and topping out at his birth weight finally, a hefty 6 lbs, 10 oz, and he’s already grown an inch to 20.5in. He’s pretty long and skinny much like his daddy’s side of the family. We’re trying to fatten him up a bit, but his oldest sister tends to be the same way, so we’ll take him as-is, as long as he’s eating well and is healthy.

I have to say, the world of boys is already so different… I’ve learned some handy tactics to keep from being sprayed when changing diapers, and the circumcision thing was pretty interesting.

Trike-a-thon and Homemade Kites

This past week, the girls had a trike-a-thon at school and Sofia made a homemade kite that she thought up and designed on her own. I have to admit, while I told her how great it was, I was the bad mommy who warned her that her kite would probably not fly because it was made out of paper with a crate paper string that I was sure would break as soon as she tried to fly it, leaving her in tears. But instead it flew just fine and she let me know "I told you so Mom."

Our baby boy was born March 24th and is the sweetest addition our family could have imagined. He is starting to look around and watch his sisters, and his brain is practicing smiling in his sleep, so we get a glimpse of what his sweet smile is going to look like. His sisters adore him and are "helping us" with everything, including diaper changes and pacifiers that have fallen out. Here are a few pics from the hospital and home the first week.

Waiting on Baby Brother

V took some pictures of us before baby brother is born. I'm scheduled to be induced on Tues, Mar 24th, so only a few more days. The whole pregnancy has gone by so quickly, I guess I am so much busier now than with the first two. We're ready for him, I think. The girls are excited about the whole idea of a baby in the house. SJ spends a lot of time going over all the things she's going to teach him, like jumping on one leg and saying "excuse me" after he burps, and wonders what his favorite color will be. SA is proud of her role as the "biggest sister" and wants to hold him and rock him (but not change any diapers... what's up with that?) They are going to be good big sisters. V keeps laughing at all the little tshirts and socks, it's so hard to remember them being so small. I can't wait to smell his smell... that scent on their foreheads that smells like a baby, and V and I are crazy about baby feet! We can't wait to welcome him to the world (and our crazy house!) in a few days.
